The Austin City Ballet 501(c)3 Performing Arts Conservatory The Austin City Ballet was founded in 1991, originally as The Conservatory Dance Theatre, for dance students at The Austin Conservatory of the Arts and local dance students to enjoy a pre professional performing experience. In 2000, CDT became The Austin City Ballet and a non profit 501(c)3 organization. After 21 years as a small civic company, ACB now encompassses The Performing Arts Conservatory which offers students the opportunity to hone their skills with professional training in dance and theatre including acting and voice. Annually, the ACB performing company presents The Austin Children’s Nutcracker. In the Spring our programming includes a story ballet and other contemporary works, as well as a full scale musical. Students at The Austin City Ballet Performing Arts Conservatory will have additional performing opportunities throughout the year. Our ballet program is based on training from The Royal Academy of Dance, Vaganova, Cecchetti and Bournonville syllabi. We consider Jazz, Modern/Contemporary, Tap, Hip Hop and Musical Theatre to be essential for developing a well-rounded performer and we will continue to focus on providing a broad range of training choices to our students. Guest instructors in all of the disciplines listed as well as Ballroom Dance, World Dance, Pilates and Yoga will work with the company. We endeavor to educate our students in all areas of the performing arts while maintaining a fun learning environment and family atmosphere.
Austin City Ballet and Austin City Youth Ballet, formerly known as Conservatory Dance Theatre, are non-profit organizations consisting of children ages 8-18, and semi professionals and professionals locally and nationwide.
