https://Company name: Sullivan's Greenhouse Owners: Tim & Catherine Sullivan Date established: 1998 We had always dreamed of having our own horticultural business where our family could work together at home. After Tim had worked 20 years in the industry as an employee of some great local companies, God blessed us with the chance to buy our own place. Bailey's Greenhouse in rural Cass county came up for sale and we knew it was right for us. Since then we have focused on providing annuals, hanging baskets, perennial & herbs to independent garden centers in the Kansas City area. All of our seven children have grown up working in the greenhouse and managing our spot at the Overland Park Farmers Market. We have spent most of our summers building and refurbishing the greenhouses. In recent years we have specialized in growing a broad range of herbs for local gardeners. In 2005 we introduced our own brand of herbs known as "Pantry Garden Herbs". We now offer over 150 varieties of herbs which can be found at many of the local KC garden centers. We have also launched two websites, pantrygardenherbs.com, which gives detailed information about the plants including growing tips and some great recipes, and more recently, sullivansgreenhouse.com which describes the company mission. Who works at Sullivan's? Most of the kids have grown up and moved on, but Amy & Michelle still put in their time transplanting and filling trays with soil. Their older sister Angela is off to Paris, so Amy will be working the Overland Park Farmers Market with her brother, Daniel, who is now married, has one child and a greenhouse business of his own. Diana is also married, works full time and helps manage the Raytown Community Garden. Oldest daughter, Kristin, now a grad student at Ohio Sate, helped design the website and herb labels. Joseph, now at Johnson County Community College, put in his time on the "dirt machine" as well as all the demolition and construction projects at the greenhouse. Quite a few ladies from the neighborhood come to the greenhouse each spring to sow seed, stick cuttings, transplant and take care of all the other many details of growing plants. Lee Lewis, a nearby farmer, delivers plants to all the stores and Shane Irvin takes care of the equipment and buildings. Tim's sister, Ann, manages the Pantry Garden Herbs website and sends herb seeds and plants all over the country. Catherine is in charge of the "herb house" and Tim tries to keep track of it all. Having this business has been a wonderful blessing to our family. We're truly grateful to our God and Father of the Lord Jesus Christ who richly supplies all our needs. Though we often fail, it is our aim to please Him in all our ways. We believe that producing healthy plants that are a good value to our customers pleases Him. We also believe that our growing practices should respect His creation rather than harm it. That's why we are taking great pains to focus our energy on utilizing organic and sustainable growing practices. The Sullivan Family (2005)
