Our Beliefs: -Students learn in different ways and learn best when provided with a choice of successful approaches to support their learning styles. -Students learn more when they are actively engaged in an individualized, self-paced curriculum. -Students learn more when they are responsible for their learning and behavior. -Each student is a valued individual with unique physical, social, emotional, and intellectual needs. -Individual tutoring strengthens teacher-student relationships and facilitates student learning. -Students are more successful when teachers perform the functions of motivator, facilitator, counselor, and tutor. -Student learning is demonstrated by mastery of essential knowledge and skills. -A low student-teacher ratio increases student learning. -Learning is enhanced by positive relationships and mutual respect between staff and students. -A safe and orderly environment promotes student learning. -The commitment to continuous improvements is imperative for the school to enable students to become confident, self-direct, lifelong learners. Statistical Data: -Students from 34 counties have been served. -Students from age 14 to age 64 years have been served. -The MECHS has helped to decrease the seven-county collaborative dropout rate from 7.6% to 4.1%. -Each year 25% to 33% of collaborative high schools’ graduates have made up failed classes in the MECHS and have graduated on time with their peers. -The MECHS has increase the number of diplomas awarded from three in 1994, the first year of operation, to 235 in 2011.
Mountain Education Charter High School (MECHS) is a collaborative effort of 17 North Georgia School Systems. MECHS is a student-centered, self-paced, and flexible learning environment serving to be the first choice for a second chance.
