Cloth Paper Dreams

Website: Kumbh Mela is the world's largest spiritual pilgrimage. The ancient origin of the Kumbh Mela is described in the time honored Vedic literature of India as having evolved from bygone days of the universe when the demigods and the demons produced and then battled for the nectar of immortality. Although smaller gatherings occur annually, it is on the twelfth year that the event is on a much more epic scale. An estimate of as many as 100 million people was quoted to have been in attendance in 2013. Journey to India’s Kumbh Mela, where every twelve years at the confluence of the three holiest rivers, untold millions converge to pray, commune and ultimately connect to something greater than themselves. Watch as the stories of three men from three different worlds are woven together. Follow one man on his pilgrimage of faith, another on his journey of devotion, and a third on his quest for purpose. Greg Davis, a National Geographic Creative Photographer was invited to exhibit photographic work under a theme of "Myth and Legend" at the Museum of the Southwest in Midland Texas in November and December of 2013. Both 'mythical and legendary', the subject for Davis' exhibition was the Kumbh Mela. This 11-minute short film entitled, "Cloth Paper Dreams" was created to compliment that photographic work as well as as a stand alone film. The idea and premise of both the photography and the documentary film 'Cloth Paper Dreams' is to bring awareness of this epic historical event thru exhibitions, screenings, new media applications and speaking engagements.
