Hoofer Youth Program

The one-week and two-week camps give kids ages 10-18 the chance to explore these water sports in an environment focused on fun and learning. Whether you are an experienced sailor or a total beginner, we have a class for you. Classes for 2013 Sailing 1: This class is geared toward the total beginner and focuses on learning the basics of sailing in a fun, positive, and safety-conscious environment. In this class, students will learn how to identify wind direction, rigging and launching, sailing a straight course, and tacking and jibing. Youth will also learn about basic stewardship as they are expected to help other students and treat all equipment with respect. Sailing 2: This course is for students who are comfortable sailing by themselves. Students in Sailing 2 learn about advanced sailing theory while continuing to develop basic sailing skills. This class gives students an opportunity to problem solve and provides an environment of good communication and teamwork. Sailing 3: Students in this class should be dedicated sailors of at least 13 years old. They should show determination to improve their skills on a variety of boats. This class focuses on developing students’ skills to be able to sail on advanced fleets, improve racing skills, and learn to teach sailing to others. Sailing Day Camp: These one week, all day courses for beginner or experienced sailors focus on learning the fundamentals of sailing in a fun and positive environment. Day camps for beginners are offered as well as Advanced Day Camp for the more experienced student. Windsurfing: These classes aim to teach the basics of windsurfing to students while focusing on developing the students’ confidence with windsurfing independently. Instruction is personalized according to skill and can include more advanced topics.
