Senior Transportation Connection (STC) provides comprehensive, coordinated, efficient and affordable transportation to seniors and adults with disabilities throughout Cuyahoga County. Since 2005, STC has served individuals who have mobility challenges due to age, lack of access, disability, frailty or inability to drive. Nearly 20,000 registered riders live in Cuyahoga County. Most passengers are female (82 percent), and about half are age 75 or older. One third of passengers use a wheelchair, walker or other aid to mobility. The leading trip purpose is a medical appointment, including dialysis, rehabilitation and treatment. Senior centers for meals and programs are the second most in-demand destination. Other priority destinations are grocery shopping and personal appointments. This maintains access to activities that meet basic needs, especially health care and food. Twenty-eight municipalities, Cuyahoga County Division of Senior & Adult Services Options, social agencies, and Greater Cleveland RTA contract with STC. They cover most of the costs of each trip, with a small fare or donation from the passenger. STC books more than 100,000 trips annually, driving more than one million miles countywide. STC sets a standard for public/private partnership across communities to support older adults who no longer drive -- with reliable, safe, accessible transportation.
